As you may already know, I do not cook "just" kid-friendly food like french fries and chicken nuggets. I always strive to do something different, and I choose to prepare foods that I have used at home with my own children.
I always had a requirement of our two girls. They had to "try" everything, but if it was not to their liking, I did not make them eat it. Also, it had to be a "real" taste and not just touching the tongue to the food. Every day I encourage the boys and girls at NALC to be open to try something new or different. You can help by encouraging them to try something new at home, too.
Today, we had Chicken Alfredo, Cream-Style Corn, Apple Sauce, and Ritz Crackers. (Those babies love crackers.) The cream-style corn was not the "open-the-can-stuff." I drained canned corn and heated it with cream cheese added to make it creamy. Most of the boys and girls loved it. Sometimes, I make a gravy and mix it with corn to make my own cream-style corn.
Since I do not use raw meats here at NALC. I used canned chicken breasts from Sam's. The chicken is really good and is delicious all by itself. Today, I used elbow macaroni and Bertoli alfredo sauce. It was simply delicious. The boys and girls REALLY like macaroni of any kind.
Yes, we had Apple Sauce, but we do not have it every day. I do switch between, Apple Sauce, Yogurt, Fruit Cocktail, Peaches, and Pears. Even with a variety, I get more kids asking for Apple Sauce than anything else.
Breakfast was Grits (with butter), Buttered Toast, and Apple Sauce. The grits were amazing. Plus, if you are Southern, you need to love grits. Right? Ya'll all know that!
I like to serve Grits and Oatmeal from time to time so that the boys and girls are getting a "warm" breakfast. (Okay, I also toast the Pop Tarts in the oven and put a little butter on top. Who can turn down a toasted Pop Tart with Butter?)
I just felt like a "food post" today. I think I will do this more often. Maybe I will blog about the week's menu and tell you things about it. Hmmmm...that is a good idea. I just might become a famous "Food Blogger Person." -gomey :)
